Goodbye 2022

Here we are again, saying farewell to another year. My hope for 2023 - minimal pain, tears, and sadness. Setting the bar low? Geeze,  I hope so.

Looking back at twenty-two vis-a-vis Pbase:

I have no '2023' paraphernalia;  no glasses, no champagne glass,  no glitter. Meh. The new year will come regardless.

This post sounds very low energy but I'm actually quite positive about the coming year.

Happy New Year!

Wintry

I told myself I should stop talking about the weather but DAMN it's going to be cold this weekend! Eleven. Degrees.

December has not been kind. I swear it's always the worst month for me. But it's almost over.

Low on HoHoHo

I had to run some errands this morning and was dismayed by people who were most unhelpful; not to mention rude drivers. Sheesh!

Looking at my photos from this day over the years, I noticed that I usually make my mom's cookies today. I have the ingredients but I've decided to wait until the new year. No particular reason for putting it off, just mixing things up. Ha!

R.I.P.

Ding, dong, my watch is dead.

When I checked the notifications on my phone this morning, there was a watch software update available. I clicked it and my Samsung Watch 4 died. Murdered. Slain by Samsung.

A Google search re: the update did indeed produce stories of watches being turned into bricks.

Is it any wonder I get chest pains?

Long story short,  I'm getting a new watch.

What's next?

I, I, I. Me, me, my.

 I, I, I

Me, me, my.

Besides having a bad cold this week, I was struck by the realization that social media is 99% over-sharing. I was taking part in an Instagram project #decemberreflections and the prompt was "5 things about me". As I read through the postings of others taking part, I thought 'oh my word, this is disgusting '. Over-sharing.  I've been as guilty as anyone over the years. Sharing too much trivial information.

I also realized that I have come to know some truly wonderful people via social media. Some I have met in person but most I only know online. I also know that for those who are housebound, social media may help them be less despondent.  However, in some cases, it also contributes to poor self-image and depression. Social media: Take only as needed.

Oh, and I consider sharing photography a worthy endeavor. Make more photos!

December One

Well here we are in December; never a joyous month for me, too much sadness. BUT, I do the best I can.

I came down with a cold on Monday so I had to reschedule my MRI. Feeling better today so I put up my little Christmas tree.

This is my Santa Bear, hanging from my rear view mirror.

Rainy Sunday

 In black and white.

The coming week is not going to be an easy one. I will have a cardiac MRI on Wednesday. Thursday is the 14th anniversary of my husband's passing. And Friday is an annual checkup; mainly for the purpose of prescription renewals. Getting old - it's not for the weak. lol

I have been watching The House of the Dragon on Netflix, a prequel to Game of Thrones. Definitely not a light story by any means, but the dragons are cool.

Giving Thanks

I had a very nice Thanksgiving day. I went to my son's home for dinner and everything was delicious.

I have no new photos to share so here is a sunset from 2003.

A time for grieving

I received news that one of my aunts passed away earlier this month. This morning,  I read that a high school classmate passed away on Friday. Saturday would have been my mom's 101st birthday. I miss her every day.

Although it's freaking cold in the morning here, I made it to the car wash yesterday.

Mid-November

Winter has found us; this mornings temp... 29!

This was a leaf next to a stain left by a wet leaf. As soon as I snapped this, the real leaf blew away.

No special Thanksgiving plans. And no turkey either, just sides and pie for me. 😄

Leaves Leaving

The weather has been nearly perfect. The hibiscus continues to bloom and the trees continue to put on a show. However, we're expecting a lot of rain on Friday and I fear the trees will lose most of their leaves.  I could be wrong; it's happened once or twice. 🤣

Space

Remember when Saturday was homemade pizza day? My new apartment has less counter space and making pizza requires a lot. Any baking, in general, is not easily accomplished in tight quarters. Anyway, I made pizza yesterday. It was tasty but I doubt it will be a weekly endeavor.

Peak at the Park

I visited McDowell Nature Preserve this morning. I think it was peak color.

Hello November

Here we are, on the downhill side of 2022.

No trick-or-treaters last night.  I was prepared with treats but no little goblins showed up. Oh well.

Some color on my street.

My Halloween wine glass... spooky.

The weather is still mild here, although the mornings are chilly. Perfectly Autumn.

Autumn

Autumn is gentle. Like Spring, Autumn is a time of change. Spring brings the new leaves to the trees and Autumn sheds them, in riotous color. Winter and summer are about surviving. Take in the red, yellow, and orange and remember them when winter turns everything gray and bleak.

Voted!

I voted this morning. The polling place was in an old gymnasium next to a golf course. I could have taken fifty photos inside that building; lots of peeling paint and other yummy stuff. I did get a few pics outside after casting my ballot.

Progress

I hung outdoor lights on my patio. The job required thinking outside the box as I'm limited as to what I can do in a rented space, vis-a-vis nails, screws, etc. But they're up and staying in place, thus far.

Received my first wine delivery at my new address. A signature is required for alcohol and for the first time, the fedex guy also asked for my date of birth. I watched as he spun the dial to find the year. Lol.

Autumn Palette

Now that all of the boxes have been unpacked, it's time to personalize my new space.

I'm gradually getting accustomed to the routine and sounds of my new surroundings. Once in a while, I'll hear a sound that 'doesn't compute' and I'll get up (it's always in the middle of the night) and look around.

We've had cold mornings this week but temps should be back in the 70s by the weekend.

Found Some Color

 Blue skies, fall color.

Moving and standing

Hopefully,  I have stood in my very last DMV line. I detest the DMV,  but I wouldn't want to work there.

All boxes have been unpacked. I still search for what I need especially in the kitchen.

Anyway, I had a chance (and the inclination) to take a few pics.

Red

Well, I stumbled upon some autumn.  I think I have one box left and most of its contents have found a home. I have my new driver's license  but license plate and title are scheduled for Tuesday.

Having an Ian day

Hopefully, Ian passes through without much damage.

I moved in on Wednesday and I have so very much to unpack. Beau watches and approves.

End of Summer

Summer is finally hitting the road,  hallelujah!

Beau,  in his carrier, for a vet appointment.

A wish for Good Luck, seen along the roadside while sitting in traffic.

And, the final sunrise of Summer.
