why I hate technists

I have been thinking lately about artists as photographers, photographers who are also artists and technists - those who use/view photography purely as a means to an end. An artist will use whatever technique, tool or process inspires and moves his creative spirit. A technist will not deviate from the recognized, standard, approved way of creating a photograph. If you subscribe to their narrow view, photography will remain the same forever more. Well, the same as it was 100 years ago. This is one reason wedding and portrait photography have become a big yawn.
sigh
Let's look at the photos captured through the Hubble telescope - now that's an impressive lens! But it's new (relatively) and therefore must be a gimmick.... ;)
