tidy

Cleaned my desktop today.... I am a note/post-it freak. I had notes left over from the middle of last year! So things are much tidier now, only two notes remain - one re: the operating hours of the High Museum and one reminder to make an appointment for Beau to go to the vet's office.

Photography-wise.... trying to find a new/fresh subject each day is hardddddd. I'm on my 5th photo-a-day year and trying to remember "Have I shot this before?" is nearly futile. Trees, cats, flowers (oh yesss, every trip to the food store results in dragging home more flowers and-you-know-how-I-love-photographing-flowers!), moi (thankfully I don't do more than one of those a week!), etc. .... now where is that amaryllis plant?

Need to write a new note - make hotel reservations for the Festival of the Photograph.

can spring?

be far away?

Ah, I realize I'm getting ahead of myself. Afterall, it's still January.... but baseball tryouts are only a week away! I'm ready for the dogwoods and azaleas to bloom, sunshine and baseball.

palette

Watercolor painting differs from oil & acrylic in two very important ways.... one: in watercolors - you must paint from light-to-dark and two: in watercolor painting, if you make a mistake you can't just 'paint over it'; you pretty much have to get a new sheet of paper and start over. It might seem unforgiving, but if you think about it, it's probably best to plan ahead, not rush and if you don't get it right, throw it away and get a new sheet of paper.

just 3 words

I've decided to do the "just 3 words" on each Friday, to describe my past week.
This week's 3 words:
disappointment
exhale
renewal

east of the sun, west of the moon...
Been listening to Diana Krall a lot lately... thank you for the cd, B! :)
Signed up for sofobomo this morning... now, to plan a project. Should I use a topic/subject that I am familiar and comfortable with? Or choose something that I need to explore? You aren't required to have the book printed, just provide a PDF file. I've recently created a photo book of my 2007 daily images and it is very rewarding to see a year's work together, in print.

too cute

I briefly explored two new (the sites aren't new, my interaction with them is) sites this week. One is a social networking site, where people poke (and I assume grope) one another. This site has nothing to do with photography... I tried it out because I had seen an interview with the founder. I wasn't impressed with the application design, but then it was designed for school kids and it shows.

The other site is a photo hosting site... if you can wade through all of the cute icons and awards and pools and groups to get to the photos that is.

sigh

So, I offer a simple photo... simple lines, simple (natural) light, no tags/sets/or omg pools:

holy grail photo

What would you give to get the photograph that you think will be the greatest photo ever? Do you have it in your mind? What would you sacrifice, if the opportunity arose? How far would you travel? Just curious....

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.” ~C.S. Lewis

the New Year....
Instead of making a list of things I will do in 2008, I'm making a list of bad-for-me things that I won't do. Most are too personal to list here, but a few of them are:
no excuses
no regrets
no settling for less
ready, set, go! :)
